Course Overview

To provide delegates with a thorough understanding of the relevant operational and safety requirements applicable to the 360° Excavator above and below 10 tonne

Who Should Attend

Potential and existing operators who have received no formal instruction

Course Contents

  • Basic construction, names of components, purpose and use of controls and gauges
  • Use of handbook and other information sources, including legislation and Approved Codes of Practice
  • Pre-use, start, running checks and close down procedures
  • Preparing the excavator for site and road travel
  • Travelling the excavator over different terrain, including rough, undulating ground and substantial inclines
  • Manoeuvring, progressing to confined spaces in a forward and reverse direction
  • Position and set up the machine to excavate
  • Carry out minor adjustments and routine service procedures
  • Preparing the machine for travelling on the public highway
  • Soil and material characteristics
  • Excavating below ground to line and level (use of traveller)
  • Loading vehicles and hoppers
  • Backfilling, grading, spreading and levelling different types of materials
  • Changing attachments
  • Placing the excavator in an out of service condition
  • Loading and unloading procedures on and off a transporter
  • Assessment

Course Outcomes

On completion of the course your candidate will be able to:
  • Know the capabilities of the machine, its purpose and limitations
  • Know safety precautions necessary for the correct operation of the machine
  • Be able to interpret the information provided by level pegs, profiles etc.
  • Be able to carry out effective routine adjustments and servicing procedures when necessary
  • Delegates are required to take the CPCS Technical Test. Upon successful completion of the test they will be awarded a Red Operators Card.
Your candidate will be awarded a:
  • CPCS Red Operators Card – ( subject to successfully passing the Health & Safety Touch Screen Test)
