Course Overview

The CITB Site Supervisors Safety Training Scheme (SSSTS) course is an ideal introduction for obtaining a basic understanding of health and safety duties and responsibilities for junior management and to ensure that all those given supervisory responsibilities understand why they are carrying out their duties and what is expected of them to ensure that they contribute to the safety of the workplace.

Who Should Attend

This course is for first line managers - those who have, or are about to acquire supervisory responsibilities. It provides an introduction to health and safety, welfare and environmental issues for those requiring an understanding of their legal responsibilities relevant to their work activities. It will provide a sound knowledge base to enable them to give valuable assistance in safely managing a construction site.

Introduction to health and safety law, duties, responsibilities, enforcement and sanctions
Overviews/explanations of relevant construction activity legislation
Accident costs, causes, investigation, prevention and reporting requirements
Health and Safety Law
Developing a Health and Safety Management System
Fire Prevention and Control
Risk Assessment and Method Statements
Hazardous Substances
CDM Regulations
Working at Height
Personal Protective Equipment
Manual Handling
Accidents and First Aid

It also includes recent changes in accepted working practices.

Course Outcomes

On completion of the course your candidate will be able to:

Understand the problems of the industry
Have an understanding of how health and safety law is structured and how it applies to supervisors
Identify how their supervisory role fits in with the management structure in controlling the site safely
Carry out risk assessments and understand the need for method statements
Carry out effective site inductions, toolbox talks and method statement briefings
Be able to monitor site activities effectively

Your candidate will be awarded a:

CITB - Construction Skills Site Supervisors Safety Training Scheme Certificate (Valid for 3 Years) awarded to those persons who successfully complete the course including the successful completion of a 30 minute, 25 question, multiple-choice examination at the end of the course.
