What is Working at Height?

Whether on scaffolding, powered access equipment, towers, cranes or a simple ladder, working at any height can be high risk if not trained and operated correctly.

From residential buildings to acres wide construction sites, all working at height operations are subject to The Work at Height Regulations 2005, created to prevent death and injury caused by a fall from height. The legislation covers a broad range of scenarios. It states that employers and anyone in control of work at height activity must plan operations appropriately and work is supervised and conducted by competent people. The level of planning required will depend on the nature of the work, so workers must be able to choose the right type of equipment for working at heights relevant to them. Crane operations will naturally differ from low-level ladder use, so understanding high and low-risk requirements is essential for safe operations on-site.
