Cable Avoidance (CAT & Genny) Training

Introduction

Cables are hazardous yet easy to catch by an untrained operative. When this happens, damage to wires is called a cable strike, often due to excavators, hand-held tools and digging equipment. Operators must switch power off when cable strikes happen and evacuate the site to assess the damage and risk. But this scenario can be avoided using cable avoidance tools that identify the location of buried cables and pipes before excavation, reducing the risk of injury to personnel and damage to utilities.

This Citrus Cable Avoidance (CAT & Genny) Training delivers the necessary skills, knowledge, and understanding to safely carry out cable avoidance work.

Course Outline

With a mix of practical and theory-based exercises, videos, and tutorials, delegates will cover manufacturer and general knowledge and awareness of utility services and participate in practical activities to learn best practices and operating methods to detect cables for excavation preparation.

Cable Avoidance is often referred to as CAT & Genny training, our training follows National Occupational Standards. In addition, choose to learn with Citrus, and delegates benefit from our custom-built training facilities and customer-first approach.

Our occupationally and technically-experienced trainers coach delegates on this course, completing the session with a practical observation and short answer question paper. They must pass the assessment to qualify for the Citrus accredited certificate and ID card, valid for three years.
