CPCS Plant and Vehicle Marshaller (A73)

Introduction

Communication is critical in movement and positioning on site. Whether it's plant machinery or transport vehicles, the safety of everyone involved, directly or in the vicinity, relies heavily on the calibre of marshall on-site to avoid accidents and collisions.

This Plant and Vehicle Marshaller A73 CPCS certification provides delegates with a thorough understanding of the relevant operational and safety requirements applicable to an on-site plant and vehicle marshaller (banksman).

Course Outline

A mix of practical and theory-based exercises and tutorials take delegates through the procedures and legislation relating to Plant and Vehicle Marshaller A73. In addition, they’ll participate in practical activities to learn components and functions, best practices and operating methods.

The course will explain;

Duties, responsibilities and any limitations of marshalling or guiding the movement of plant and vehicles
Procedures when capabilities exceed limits in a variety of situations or locations
Hierarchy of control measures for plant and vehicle movement and the requirements of a work management traffic plan
Legislative requirements and procedures for plant and vehicles on the public highway and the effects on other road users
Types, attributes, limitations, hazards, and stability factors on a range of typical plant and work-related vehicles relevant to the sector
Types, functionality, advantages and limitations of a range of driver visibility aids for various plant and vehicles
How ground conditions and features, proximity hazards and weight limits can affect operations
The importance and locations of positions of safety for a marshaller and other personnel

Our occupationally and technically-experienced trainers coach delegates through this course, completing the session with a practical observation and theoretical assessment.

They must pass the examination to qualify for the ​​Red Trained Operator CPCS Card.

Course Programme

This training is essential for workers to safely operate as a Plant and Vehicle Marshaller A73. Delegates will review legal requirements, ensure safety compliance, and understand procedures and appropriate documentation and classifications.

The content will take delegates through;

Different types of communication methods to manage vehicle and plant movements
Communicating vehicle and plant movement information to drivers/operators
What to do when data is insufficient and/or there is a deviation from the given safe system of work
Ensuring the area for plant and vehicles movement is suitable for manoeuvring activities and exclusion zones
Suitable locations for marshalling duties
Sector-specific PPE and resources suitable for marshalling duties
Movement and positioning on a range of typical plant and vehicles using the approved code of signals
Guiding and assisting plant and vehicles in and out of restricted areas using forward and reverse motions following the approved code of signals
Plant movement to support the duties of a plant operator
Ensuring the manoeuvring area is safe during and after operations and once plant and vehicles depart

On Completion

At the end of the training, successful delegates will:

Have a working knowledge of the Health and Safety at Work Act
Confidently understand and implement all legislation and regulations appropriate for a Plant and Vehicle Marshaller following the A73 programme
Understand, assess and work in safe workplaces
Communicate effectively to other operatives and anyone else affected by the operation
Manoeuvre and position various plant and machinery safely and to code
Know all safe practices for a Plant and Vehicle Marshaller for signalling and positioning
Conduct risk control for different vehicle moving scenarios

On successfully completing the course, delegates receive their Red Trained Operator CPCS card, valid for two years.

Who Should Attend

This Plant and Vehicle Marshaller A73 CPCS Certification is for Plant Operators who need to direct or guide vehicles as part of their daily duties. While it is ideal for delegates to have some machinery experience, it is not mandatory.

The course is available to those who need novice training, prep and test and test only options.

Course Duration

This comprehensive course trains delegates to safely and responsibly work as a Plant and Vehicle Marshaller A73 on-site.

Novice Training - three days with a maximum of four delegates
Preparation and Test – two day with a maximum of four delegates
Test Only - one day with a maximum of four delegates

Things you need to know

This CPCS Certifed course has practical elements, so delegates must inform their trainer if they have any serious health issues, physical problems, special considerations or are taking any medication, which may create difficulties in any elements of the training.

The delegate must have passed their health, safety and environmental touch test within two years of taking their CPCS theory test.

For training held at your location, please ensure that the classroom you make available has a power supply and is a suitable size for the number of delegates attending. In addition, please ensure that the practical area has been risk-assessed, is free from harm, and is ideal for training.
